Mrs. Norma Hayes Garris, age 82 of Elkin, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Garris was born July 25, 1930 in Yadkin County to John Henry and Sally Jane Cooper Hayes. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church in State Road. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five sisters and two brothers. Survivors include: husband, Leo Martin Garris of the home; son, Norman Garris and his wife Jennifer of State Road; brother, Homer P. Hayes of Mocksville; grandchildren, Mesha Hearn and Greg Brewer and his wife Amanda; step grandchildren, Fain Barker and her husband Josh and James Blackburn and his wife Olivia; great grandchildren, Carys Brewer and Cannon Brewer; and step great grandchild, Hadley Blackburn. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, July 26, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway officiating. Entombment will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 1432 US Hwy 21, State Road, NC 28676. The family would like to thank Dr. Groner, Dr. Vybrial, and the staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for their care.
