Mr. Thomas "Sonny" Fletcher Walls, Jr., age 84, of Elkin passed away Monday, June 17, 2013 at his home. He was born August 10, 1928 to Thomas Fletcher Walls, Sr. and Sena Mickle Walls. He retired from Western Electric Co. and he was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He served on the board of directors of Pleasant Hill Fire Department for several years and worked many years with the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Boy Scout Troop. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Wall, Louise Bell, Irene Wilcox, and Elsie Makas; and infant grandchildren, Matthew Spillman and Mark Spillman. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mittie Lou Wiles Walls, a son Tommy "Tad" Walls and wife Tina of Elkin; two daughters, Kathy Spillman and husband Dana of East Bend and Joyce Ann Freeman and husband Rick of Elkin; a sister, Mary Lee Talley of Yadkinville; three grandchildren Dara Waddell and husband John, Andrea Wall and husband Eric both of East Bend and Kelly Greer of Elkin; four great-grandchildren Brittany Waddell, Peyton Wall, Kiersten Wall, and Bryson Wall of East Bend; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church or to Mountain Valley Hospice. He had many special friends and neighbors who showed him much kindness during his illness and the family wishes to express their appreciation to them. They would also like to thank his special caregivers, Sandra Walker, Neil Settle, and Lisa Bryant.
