In the early morning hour of May 18, 2013 our loving God reached down and took the hand of our mother, Milner Brown Whitaker, and took her to heaven. Mom was born in Yadkin County on January 24, 1926 to Marvin & Martha Bray Brown. She worked hard on the family farm and learned to become the most wonderful cook and made the best biscuits in the world. She met our father, Arvil James Whitaker, and he stole her heart. They were married for 59 years before Daddy passed away. They spent all of their years together enjoying the outdoors and teaching us about the love of Christ. Fishing and hunting were among their favorite things. And we, their children, promise to always remember the love that was shown to us by our mother and father. Surviving are four children and their spouses: Allen and Peggy Whitaker, Gary and Kathy Whitaker, Gilda and David Pruitt, and Arvilene and Todd Gilliam. Grandchildren, Kim and Jason Myers, Roger and Melanie Cook, Chris Whitaker and Melissa Luffman, Melissa and Phillip Whiteley, Josh and Renee Whitaker, and Tonya Beard who blessed Mom with 14 great-grandchildren. She was also predeceased by four brothers and two sisters and leaves several nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. The celebration of her life will be conducted Monday, May 20, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Steve Blackburn and Rev. Roger Hensley officiating. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice, Dr. Susan Hines and Dr. Ashton Molai for their care.
