Rachel Viola Kirkman

Mrs. Rachel Viola Kirkman, age 87 of Ronda passed away, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Kirkman was born December 14, 1925 in Alleghany County to James M. and Rachel Swaim Pinnix. Mrs. Kirkman was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Kirkman, Sr. and twelve siblings. Survivors include: her son, Byron Kirkman, Jr. of Ronda; daughters, Cheryl K. Baldwin and husband Ricky of Orange Park, FL and Kathy J. Urbowicz and husband Michael of Mocksville; sister, Lois Pinnix Stacy of Elkin; grandchildren, Scott Baldwin, Aaron Jackson, Casey Jackson and Jordan Jackson; great grandchildren, Hunter, Nellie and Grace and special friend, Zeb Witherspoon of State Road. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Murphy and Pastor Rick Baldwin officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made Hugh Chatham Nursing Center Activities Department, PO Box 560, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for their care.
