Mrs. Vergie Bartley Royall Tate, age 94 of State Road, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at Heritage Healthcare of Elkin. Mrs. Tate was born May 19, 1918 in Surry County to Rev. Claude and Viola Matthews Bartley. Mrs. Tate was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher, active in the WMU and choir member. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert B. Royall, second husband, Clark C. Tate and a sister, Valeria Bartley Williams. Survivors include: her sons, Claude F. Royall and friend Brenda Barnes of Pfafftown and Ed H. Royall and wife Linda of Winston-Salem; step-daughters, Jacqueline Tate Baugus and husband Fred of Boonville and Linda Tate of State Road; sisters, Marie B. Isaacs of King and Elizabeth B. Ausburne of Mt. Airy; granddaughters, Angela Edwards and husband Marty, Alyson Kilby and husband Joel and Michelle Royall; three great granddaughters; one great grandson; several step grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; several step great-great grandchildren; three nieces; two nephews and special friend, Rachel Howard of State Road. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 13, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mt.
