John Arlie Smith

June 17, 1932 — May 8, 2013

Mr. John Arlie Smith, Jr., age 75 of Jonesville passed away, Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical. Mr. Smith was born December 26, 1937 in Wilkes County to John A. and Eula Thompson Smith. Mr. Smith was a Chief in The US Navy serving in Vietnam and retired from Flour Daniel Construction. Mr. Smith was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He was a member of Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the American Legion. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Gene Autry Smith. Survivors include: his wife, Christine R. Smith of the home; sons, John A. Smith III of California and Dennis C. Smith of Houston, TX; daughter, Tina Smith Vestal of Elkin; brothers, Roland Vern Smith of Elkin and Sherwood Smith and wife Nancy of State Road; sisters, Judy Baber of Florida and Joyce Carter and fiancé Tim Parks of Elkin; grandchildren, Daniel J. Wilson and Zoe M. Vestal and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 13, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Bible Baptist Church with Rev. Dwayne Lankford officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV), PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301; Bible Baptist Church, 5933 US Hwy 21S, Jonesville, NC 28642 or donor's choice. The family would like to thank Rev. Dwayne Lankford; Wake Forest University Baptist Hospital, ICU Charge Nurse, Mike, Dr. "C", Dr. Farah, Dr. Tohan, Sherry Close and Amanda. Mr. Smith's family would also like to thank all of their friends and family for their continued support.
