Mrs. Linda Upchurch Hamby, age 70 passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Hamby was born April 28, 1942 in Stokes County to George Robert and Dorothy "Dot" Vernon Upchurch. Mrs. Hamby was a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Hamby and her brother, Robert Upchurch. Survivors include: her son, Chris Hamby and wife Wendy of State Road; daughters, Denise Barnes and husband Barry of Jonesville; April Gentry and husband Joey of Elkin and Vicky Pruitt and husband Billy of State Road; sisters-in-law, Carol Upchurch, Irene Hamby,and Betty Hamby; grandchildren, Leslie Byrd, Jordan Byrd, Dylan Byrd, Courtney Barnes, Joshua Barnes, Ethan Barnes, Dalton Pruitt and Danielle Pruitt; numerous nieces and nephews and many special friends. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins and Rev. Charles Lethcoe officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center c/o Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation, PO Box 560, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for the loving care they gave Mrs. Hamby.
