Herbert Howard Transou

August 21, 1925 — March 20, 2013

Mr. Herbert Howard Transou, age 87, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mr. Transou was born August 21, 1925 in Wilkes County to Howard Hort and Beautious Clara Burchette Transou. Mr. Transou was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and a charter member of the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department. Mr. Transou was a veteran of the US Navy serving during WWII and retired from NCDOT. In addition to his parents, Mr. Transou was preceded in death by his wife, Cola Anderson Transou; daughter, Jennifer Jayne Transou; brother, Sam Transou and sisters, Ruby Freeman and Willie "Bill" Burchette. Survivors include: his sons, Allen Transou and wife Christine of Elkin and Mark Transou and wife Teresa of Lenoir; sister, Clara "Tinker" Transou; two grandchildren, Meredith Transou and Amanda Transou; two step grandchildren, Melanie Hawkins and Emily York; and one step great grandchild, Jackson York. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, March 24, 2013 at 3:30 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds, Dr. Gary Byrd and Rev. Jerry Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00- 3:30 p.m. prior to service.
