Mrs. Minnie Marie Barker Brown, age 90 of State Road, passed away Monday, March 4, 2013 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Brown was born June 26, 1922 in Wilkes County to Rev. David and Cora Belle Hicks Barker. Mrs. Brown was a faithful member of Charity Hill Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Burton Brown; five brothers, Major Barker, Marshall Barker, Sam Barker, James Barker and Clyde Barker; one sister, Mae Royal; one great-great grandson, Brandon Hamby; three sons-in-law, James Cranford, John B. Jones, Jr. and Gurney Wilson Tilley, Jr. Survivors include: her daughters, Mattie Cranford of State Road, Hazel Groce and husband, J.D. of Yadkinville, Opal B. Jones of State Road, Olene Beach and husband Alvis of Elkin, Coralee Dodson and husband Ervin of Elkin and Judy Cook and husband J.D. of State Road; special nieces, Betty Royal and Peggy Hinshaw; grandchildren, Mary Hinson, Barbara Butcher, Nancy Billings, Ken Tilley, Lyle Tilley, Sheri St. John, Brian Beach, Michelle Park, David Dodson, Shannon Merritt and Michael Cook; seventeen great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, March 8, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church with Rev. Brian Cardwell, Pastor Ken Tilley and Christopher Park officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane Suite 200, Mt. Airy, NC 27030 or Charity Hill Baptist Church, 423 Union Hill Road, Thurmond, NC 28683.
