Bessie Ethel Byrd

August 7, 1920 — January 2, 2013

Mrs. Bessie Ethel Byrd, age 92 of Elkin, passed away, Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at her home. Mrs. Byrd was born August 7, 1920 in Wilkes County to Willie Hasting and Arzona Hayes Luffman. Mrs. Byrd was a lifelong member of Oak Level Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond O. Byrd; sons, Aldean Byrd, Dexter Byrd, Randy Byrd, Danny Darrell Byrd and Stephen Byrd; granddaughter, Debera Anderson; great granddaughter, Miranda Richardson; grandson, Donnie Anderson; great grandson, Joey Anderson; great granddaughter, Shyann Anderson; sisters, Dicie Gentry and Ida Barker and brothers, Claude Luffman, Lonnie Luffman and Dewitt Luffman. Survivors include: Her daughter, Wanda Anderson; grandsons, Billy Junior Anderson, Jamie Byrd, Greg Byrd, Kenny Byrd, Nathan Byrd, John Dean Byrd and Dillon Byrd; granddaughters, Deanna Swisher and Candice Cheek; thirteen great grandchildren; thirteen great-great grandchildren; special care taker, Tammy Spicer and her loving dog, Sammy. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Craig Key and Rev. Matty Ponce-de-Leon officiating. Burial will follow in Charity United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
