Mrs. Evelyn Carter Golden, age 83 of State Road passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Golden was born on May 11, 1929 in Surry County to M. Loyal and Mammie C. Carter. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Golden was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Golden and brother Jack Carter. If we die with Him, we will also live with Him. If we endure we will also reign with Him. On December 26th Evelyn began the best part of her life. While earthbound she devoted time every morning to Bible reading and prayer. Her Bible had been read through many times. She praised God for His goodness to her daily. In 1Samuel 16:7 the Word says the Lord looks at the heart. When He looked at Evelyn's heart He saw a servant's heart. She served as a Sunday school teacher, G.A. leader, choir member, a Cub Scout den mother, and in various other ways. She loved her church and was supportive. In Genesis 1:12 we read of God creating vegetation and in Genesis 1:20 of God creating waters that teemed with living creatures and birds that fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky. Evelyn loved caring for that creationtending flowers and gardens, mowing the lawn, fishing, and feeding and watching the birds. She was a wife of noble character. Her children arise and call her blessed. As a mother, grandmother and great grandmother she was devoted, caring, and expressed her love to all. Her family will always cherish the memory of delicious foods she prepared for them. Those left to cherish her memory are: Her son, Roger Golden of State Road; daughter, Sharon Wooten and husband Roger of State Road; brother, Tom Carter of State Road; sisters, Mildred Alexander of Winston-Salem, Lou Rae Burchette of Jonesville and Mary Jane Morgan of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Amy Bennett, Melanie Davis, Emily Reece and Travis Golden; great grandchildren, Stevie Campbell, Whitney Shores, Brett Campbell, Belle Reece, Jake Davis, Mia Davis, Maggie Reece, Josie Reece and Gideon Golden. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Homer Greene and Dr. Gary Byrd officiating. Family will receive friends immediately after Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
