James Preston Harter, Jr.

Mr. James Preston "J.P." Harter, Jr, age 72, passed away Wednesday, December 19, 2012 at Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mr. Harter was born May 20, 1940 in Aiken, SC to James Preston Harter, Sr. and Ada Broome Harter. Mr. Harter was a member of State Road Pentecostal Holiness Church. Mr. Harter was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: His wife, Wilma B. Harter of the home; son, Bryan Christopher Harter of Greenwood, SC; daughters, Beth Laskey and husband Rod of Charlotte and Bonni Markovich and husband Aaron of Aberdeen; sisters, Jo Ann Burroughs and husband Denny of Ninety Six, SC and Linda McCashlin and husband George of N. Augusta, SC; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Linville and Louise Barker of Roaring River; brother-in-law, James R. Cothren and wife Barbara of Roaring River and grandchildren, Trisha Harter, Dexter Harter, Peyton Laskey, Patrick Markovich and Kale Laskey. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 21, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Gary Tatum officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Foundation, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. The family would like to thank the staff of Woltz Hospice Home for their loving care.
