Mrs. Verlie May Shores Haynes, age 90, passed away on Monday, October 22, 2012 at Heritage Health Care of Elkin. Mrs. Haynes was born September 12, 1922 in Surry County to Christopher Columbus & Lillie May Tucker Shores. She was raised on River Road in Jonesville, lived in Daytona Beach, FL, Winston-Salem, Hamptonville and Elkin. Mrs. Haynes was a faithful member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church where she served as her Sunday school class President. She was a member of the WMU and an officer of the Senior Citizen Fund. Verlie retired from Central Telephone Company in Elkin and Southern Bell in Winston-Salem. In addition to her parents Mrs. Haynes was preceded in death by her husband, Weaver Russell Haynes; two sisters, Ruth Carlton and Gladys Creed; three brothers, Dencie "Deeb" Shores, Archie Shores and Fred Shores. Survivors include: her sons, Brian Haynes and wife Lisa of Summerfield, Gregg Haynes of Hickory and Chris Haynes and wife Giny of Hamptonville; sister, Margie Lee Shores and husband Hoyte of Springfield, TN; grandchildren, Logan, Seth, Jake and Lindsey Haynes and special friends, Roger and Katherine Hodges. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 25, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Wesley Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Sunrise Cemetery in Jonesville. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and Heritage Health Care of Elkin.
