Randy Spencer Royall, age 56, passed away suddenly October 6, 2012 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center from complications after a long illness. Randy was born February 28, 1956, in Elkin and was graduated from Elkin High School where he excelled on the football field earning a scholarship to Elon College in Burlington. He played several seasons there before beginning his lifelong career as a salesman and subcontractor for numerous floor covering businesses throughout the southeast. Randy was an avid gardener who took great pride in maintaining both the yard and planting beds around the house. He loved hiking and trekked the majority of trails in central and western NC before illness forced him to hang up his hiking boots. He was a "true blue" Tar Heel fan and especially enjoyed basketball season, but most of all Randy enjoyed spending time and sharing love and laughter with his family and friends. He is preceded in death by parents, Delma Coe Royall and Howard Franklin Royall of Elkin. He is survived by longtime partner, Becky Warner Alexander of the home; a son, Adam Franklin Royall of Deltona, FL; two step-daughters, Ami (Sean) Roach of Atlanta, GA and Heather (Jason) Hall of Boonville; a brother, Van (Karen) Royall of Winston-Salem and countless precious and cherished friends that helped make his life full and his final days bearable. The family will receive friends at a memorial service from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 12, 2012 at Elkin Funeral Service in Elkin. The family requests that memorial be made to Friends of the Blue Ridge Parkway to help preserve an important part of the North Carolina mountains which were so important to Randy's love of life.
