Mr. Gregory Dean Mathis, age 56 of Elkin, passed away Friday, October 5, 2012. He was born November 5, 1955 in Columbus, GA to Margie Ailene and Tony Gayle Mathis. Mr. Mathis was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a member of Elkin Valley Baptist Church. Mr. Mathis was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Christine S. Mathis of the home; son, Bart Mathis of Elkin; daughter, Samantha Mathis of State Road; step sons, Bobby Huffman and William Huffman both of Wilkesboro; stepfather, Thomas Clifton DeBorde of Elkin; step mother, Linda Darnell Mathis of Elkin; brother, Cliff DeBorde of Elkin; sister, Keyna Vestal and her husband James of Elkin; step brothers, Danny Mathis of Yadkinville and Jones Darnell and his partner Jeff Taylor of Elkin; step sisters, Julie Darnell of Elkin and Debbie Ball and her husband Dusty of State Road; niece, Kendra Blythe Vestal; nephew, Tony Ray Vestal; step niece, Lindsay Blaker; and step nephew, Brody Blaker. Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, October 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Valley Baptist Church with Dr. Johnny Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by Yadkin VFW post 10346. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Post Office Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250.
