Mr. Banner Vestal Sparks, age 86, passed away, Thursday, October 4, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare of Elkin. Mr. Sparks was born February 9, 1926 in Wilkes County to Walter Grover and Emma Billings Sparks. Mr. Sparks was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WWII. Mr. Sparks retired from Proctor-Silex in Mt. Airy; he was also a member of Bessies Chapel Baptist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Levanch Stanley "Shorty" Sparks; sisters, Nora Wilmoth and Ruby Sparks and brothers, Ed Sparks, Jap Sparks and Ray Sparks. Survivors include: daughter, Sandra Snow and husband, Pete of Elkin; brothers, Bud Sparks and his wife, Shirley of State Road and Linvel Sparks and his wife, Ella Mae of Traphill; sister, Pauline Hicks of Traphill; grandchildren, Donna Coe and husband, Scotty, Donathan Snow and wife, Christy, Dustin Snow and wife, Stacey; great grandchildren, Kayla Chandler, Tiffany Coe, Meagan Johnson and Austin Snow. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Marty Reece and Rev. Mark Freeman officiating. Burial will follow in Bessies Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
