Mr. Leonard Dale Darnell, age 72, passed away, Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at Forsyth Medical Center. Mr. Darnell was born August 2, 1940 in Surry County to David C. and Esther Collins Darnell. Mr. Darnell owned Tri-County Communications and was retired from Sprint Telephone Co. in Elkin. Mr. Darnell was a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Mr. Darnell earned his Eagle Scout award on December 16, 1954 from Pleasant Hill Troop 54. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: wife, Jackie B. Darnell of the home; Son, Mark Darnell and wife Kelley of Surprise, AZ; daughters, Debbie Nicholson and husband Keith of Elkin, Rita Adkins and husband Terrell of Granite Falls, and Kim Adams and husband Melvin of Hays; brother, Garland Darnell and wife Debra of Elkin; sister, Barbara Fasanella and husband Edwin of Poqvoson, VA; grandchildren, Stephen Jordan and wife McKenzie, Mark Jordan and wife Angela, Tyler Adkins, Rose Adams, Jessica Darnell, Cody Darnell, Kendall Darnell, Brandon Wallace, Kaelyn Shelleman and Conner Shelleman; great grandchild, Quinton Wallace. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, September 2, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Dodds and Rev. Gary Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00- 8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. Serving as pallbearers will be Sonny Hodges, Stephen Jordan, Mark Jordan, Jason Darnell, Michael Darnell and Tyler Adkins. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Youth Fund, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Leonard's close friends, Sonny Hodges and Alton Hayes.
