Wilma Newman Guyer

Wilma Newman Guyer passed from this world into the arms of her Heavenly Father Wednesday, August 15, 2012. Wilma was born on September 17, 1933 to Clarence and Ina Smith Newman. Wilma was born with many talents. Anyone who ever visited her home could see her talents in decorating and gardening. She and her husband Jake moved to State Road, NC in the early 1970's and built a beautiful home that everyone enjoyed. Wilma and her husband Jake owned and operated Southeastern Metals. Wilma was also the receptionist at Brendle's Corporation. Anyone who called Brendle's would hear her warm and professional voice. Anyone who visited Brendle's would see her warm smile. Wilma retired from Brendle's in 1993. Wilma was a devoted and active member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. She was the chairman of the flower committee for many years. She was always willing to help make the church a beautiful place for many occasions. Her voice also graced the choir. Wilma will always be remembered for her generous spirit and her kind ways. Left to remember her wonderful life are a host of friends and family. Survivors include: her husband of 61years, Jake Guyer. Also surviving are her daughter Sharon Guyer Bennett and her husband Jack Bennett and their two sons John and William of Greensboro, NC. Her son, Ken Guyer and his wife Reconda of Elkin. Her foster son, Danny Willey and his wife Cammie and their three children Carlee and Dylan and Casi live in Eden, NC. Also cherishing her memory is her beloved sister and caregiver Barbara Hall of Elkin, NC. Wilma has three surviving brothers. Wilma's devoted brother Tony Newman and his wife Hilda of Thurmond, NC, Wendell Newman and his wife Jo of Jonesville, NC, and Grady Newman and his wife Betty of Dobson, NC. Wilma is also survived by a very special nephew Bobby Joe Newman and his wife Raydell of State Road, NC and a very special sister in law Mary Jane Guyer of Clemmons, NC. A special thanks to Wilma's caregivers Sheila Richardson, Molly Carter and Mattie Lane and also to her special friends Patsy and Bill Hooper, Jean and Roger Nixon and Polly and Buck Freeman. The family has also been blessed by the outpouring of support from the Poplar Springs Church family. Wilma was preceded in death by her brothers Frank, David, Wade and Sammy Newman and sisters Marie Newman and DeEtte Slawter. A celebration of her life will be held Friday, August 17, 2012. A graveside service will be held at 11am at Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dennis Ball. A memorial service will follow at 12 noon at Poplar Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Roger Hensley and Rev. Ray Davis. A time of fellowship will be held in the fellowship hall of the church following the services. All are invited to attend. In honor of her generous spirit the family requests memorials be sent to Poplar Springs Baptist Church PO Box 38 State Road, NC 28676 in lieu of flowers.
