State Road, Mr. Tommy Leroy Benton, age 67 of State Road, passed away, Monday, August 13, 2012 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. He was born March 16, 1945 in Forsyth County to Farries Benton and Hazel Johnson Benton. Mr. Benton was a longtime employee of Chatham Manufacturing and was currently employed with NuCare. He attended Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and was a member of Elkin Rescue Squad for over 30 years, having served as captain. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a stepson, Matthew Griffin. Survivors include: his wife of 30 years, Stevanna C. Benton of the home; a step son, Rodney Griffin of Yadkinville; brothers, Ronald Charles Benton of Boonville and Michael Lynn Benton and his wife Penny of Boonville; sister, Judy Benton of Jonesville; step granddaughter, Tiffany Griffin; and beloved poodle, Candi Belle. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, August 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. John Attaway and Rev. Tony White officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27107. The family would like to thank the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson for their care.
