Mrs. Faye Cockerham Couch of Elkin, died on Friday, July 6, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Couch was a native of Wilkes County. Her career in food service began in 1958 with Elkin City Schools. She worked in both Elkin Elementary and Elkin High School becoming manager of the high school cafeteria and later food service director for Elkin City Schools. She retired in June, 1983. Mrs. Couch also worked in food service beginning in 1965 at Camp Albert Butler until its closing and Camp Cheerio for a total of 18 years. Mrs. Couch started teaching Sunday School at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church at age 15 and taught classes of various ages until 2005. She then moved to The Villages of Wilkes in North Wilkesboro where she organized and taught a Sunday School class for the residents. She moved to Hugh Chatham Nursing Center in 2009. Mrs. Couch was preceded in death by her husband, Linville F. Couch, who died in 1963. She is survived by sons: Lin (Phil) Couch and wife Betty of Newton, NC; Freddie Couch and wife Peggy of Elkin, NC; Eddie Couch and wife Charlotte of Phoenix, AZ; daughters, Lena Baynes and husband Lacy of Greensboro, NC; Judy Becker and husband Frank of Orlando, FL; and special niece, Anne Groce and husband Art of North Wilkesboro, NC; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and many special friends. The funeral will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Elkin Funeral Service and at other times at 145 Victoria Street, Elkin, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 688 North Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621 or Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, 593 Pleasant Hill Drive, Elkin, NC 29621. The family would like to thank the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center and the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice for their care and kindness.
