Mrs. Mary Ellen Tucker, age 82 of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, June 6, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. She was born January 21, 1930 in Surry County to John Blackburn and Ola Hart Blackburn. Mrs. Tucker was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones Tucker; brothers, Arvil Blackburn, Sam Blackburn, J.V. Blackburn, Howard Blackburn , and Jimmy Blackburn; sisters, Juanita Vestal, Othelia Mercer, Vandalene Couch, and Donnie Blevins. Survivors include: son, Edwin Dale Tucker and his wife Teresa of Hamptonville; daughters, Cathy Couch and her husband Larry of Elkin and Peggy Shumate and her husband Steve of Ronda; brothers, James Blackburn, Dean Blackburn, and Jack Blackburn; grandchildren, Denise Blevins, Craig Couch, Tabatha Greveling, Dustin Tucker, and Dylan Tucker; great grandchildren, Seth Blevins, Rachel Blevins, and Olivia Blevins. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 8, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Smith and Rev. Joel Blevins officiating. Burial will follow in Charity United Methodist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Macedonia Baptist Church building fund, 1120 Austin-Little Mountain Road, Ronda, NC 28670 or Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank the staff of Mountain Valley Hospice and the staff of Hugh Chatham Nursing Center for their care.
