Pauline Morrison Ellis, age 90, of Arlington, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2012. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend. She was born on June 26, 1921 in Wilkes County to William T. and Lillie Morrison. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Brandon and Louise Caudle, and her brother, Elmer Morrison, all of Jonesville. Pauline, affectionately known as "Polly" to family and friends, graduated from Jonesville High school and moved to Baltimore, Maryland after her marriage to John Ellis. There she was one of the workers at Glen L. Martin Aircraft company known as "Rosie the Riveter" during World War II. After returning to N.C., she was a valued Sales Associate for 25 years at the J.C. Penney Co. in Elkin. She enjoyed making a Christian home for her family, and one of her greatest pleasures was teaching Sunday School to the three year old class at Arlington First Baptist Church. Young adults today still remember their teacher with fondness. After her retirement, she enjoyed many volunteer activities, including the Tri-County Christian Crisis Ministry, gardening and canning, church activities, and helping friends and family. Left to cherish her memory are her devoted husband of 70 years, John Ellis of the home, her sister Lola Smith, of Salisbury, her two children, Kay Ellis of Fairfax, Virginia, and Lanny Ellis of Charlotte, N.C. She is also survived by her two grandchildren Scott Ellis and his wife Tamara of Summerfield and Melissa Schuth and her husband Ed of Charlotte, her great-grandchildren, Olivia and Abigail Ellis and Mia Schuth, and many cherished nieces and nephews and their spouses. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington First Baptist Church with Rev. Michael Church and Rev. Jerry Fugate officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family wishes to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and their wonderful staff for their extraordinary assistance and kindness during Pauline's long journey and the third floor staff of Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital for their care. A special thanks to Susan McCormick at Mountain Valley Hospice for her love and compassion in caring for Polly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice or the Arlington First Baptist Church.
