Archie Mae James

Mrs. Archie Mae James, age 95, passed away Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Central Continuing Care in Mt. Airy. She was born April 5, 1917 in Avery County to John Mack Staton and Donna Betsy Buchannon Staton. Mrs. James was a faithful member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Newland, NC. She was a prize winning quilt maker, having made quilts for her family, friends, and community members. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by husbands, Boyd Tipton Cook and Charlie James; son, Blaine Tipton Cook; daughter, Linda Darlene Buchannon; and brother, Stewart Staton. Survivors include: son, Stewart Alexander Cook and his wife Nancy of Newland; daughter, Lois Cook Pritchard of Elkin; sister, Orpha Lee Burleson and her husband Charles of Newland; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-seven great grandchildren, and thirty great-great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 15, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
