Claude Foster Hicks

August 1, 1918 — April 6, 2012

Mr. Claude Foster Hicks, age 93 of Traphill, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012 at Heritage Healthcare of Elkin where he had been for several months. Mr. Hicks was born August 1, 1918 to John and Loula Hicks of Yadkin County. He joined the US Army during WWII where he received a Purple Heart for his service. Mr. Hicks was a farmer in Yadkin County for many years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Marshall Hicks, Clevland Hicks, Marvin Hicks, Roy Hicks, Ernest Hicks, and Raleigh Hicks; and two sisters, Estel Hicks Speas and Carrie Hicks Ledwell. Survivors include: his wife, Pauline Sparks Hicks of the home, brothers-in-law, Banner Sparks of Elkin, Bud Sparks and his wife Shirley of State Road, and Linville Sparks and his wife Ella Mae of Traphill; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, April 9, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Welcome Home Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Ricky Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military honors provided by VFW post 10346. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
