Mr. James Oscar Blevins, age 84 of Roaring River, passed away Monday, March 26, 2012. He was born March 25, 1928 in Wilkes County to Monroe Blevins and Elizabeth Brooks Blevins. Mr. Blevins was retired from Pepsi Bottling Company. He was a member of Benham Baptist Church where he served as deacon and past Sunday school teacher. Mr. Blevins enjoyed gardening and was a Navy veteran of WWII serving on the USS Princeton. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Aldean Blevins, Bert Blevins, Delmas Blevins, and J.T. Blevins and sisters, Beatrice Wilmoth, Viola Norman, and Thelma Poplin. Survivors include; his wife, Hazel Barker Blevins of the home; sons, Terry Blevins and his wife Barbara of Holly Springs, Timothy Blevins and his wife Sandra of Elkin, and Tony Blevins and his wife Allison of Elkin; brother, Coy Blan Blevins; grandchildren, Clint Blevins and his wife Carly, Marcie Wolven and her husband Todd, and Adam Blevins. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Benham Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to thank Mountain Valley Hospice and special friend Melissa Daye for their care.
