Roaring River Mrs. Melissa Gail Shepherd, age 58, passed away Friday, March 23, 2012 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Shepherd was born September 13, 1953 in Surry County to Carleen and Tilda Soots Holbrook. Melissa Gail was a member of New Light Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors include; her husband, Tim Shepherd of the home, a son, Brent Shepherd of Roaring River, a daughter, Cynthia Mickel and husband Jeff of Roaring River, a brother Barry Holbrook of Yadkinville, two grandchildren, Carlie Mickel and Katie Mickel. Funeral services will be held Monday March 26, 2012 at 2:00 pm at New Light Baptist Church conducted by Rev. David Key, Rev. Steve Smith and Rev. Fred Holbrook. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6-8pm at Elkin Funeral Service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Grote, Dr. Thomason, Dr. Erlandson, the nurses and staff of Forsyth 9-West and the staff of N.W. Piedmont Hematology and Oncology for the loving care given to Melissa Gail during her illness over the past three years.
