Mr. George Harden Pitts, age 91, passed away Monday, March 12, 2012. He was born October 24, 1920 in Forsyth County to Cornelius and Laura Bowman Pitts. Mr. Pitts was a retired carpenter and was a member of Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was an Army veteran serving during WWII. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Mae Simmons Pitts; half brothers, Harley Pitts, Denny Pitts, Clifton Pitts, and Neil Pitts; half sisters, Helen Vass Lanier and Elsie Morris; great grandchildren, Alexus Marie Simmons and Sawyer Andrew Simmons. Survivors include: son, Ronald Steven Simmons and his wife Janice of Greer, SC; daughter, Tina Cothren and her husband Tyre of Elkin; grandchildren, Todd Andrew Simmons, Tamara Lynn Simmons, and Rev. Brian Matthew Cothren and his wife Sarah; great grandchild, Leah Faith Cothren. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, March 15, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Jonesville Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Kenny Gunn, Rev. Ricky Johnson, and Rev. Brian Cothren officiating. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the NC National Guard Honor Guard. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m.at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 688 N. Bridge Street, Elkin, NC 28621.
