Mr. Roby Dee Martin, age 85 of Elkin, passed away Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home. Mr. Martin was born March 1, 1926 in Surry County to Jesse Green Martin and Anne Liza Lawson Martin. He was retired from NC DOT and was a past member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and Zephyr Baptist Church. Mr. Martin was known as a generous, humble, hard worker who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Etta Louise Martin; sons, Barry Grant Martin and Delmer Jesse Martin; infant son, Jesse Frank Martin; grandson, Jesse Dee Martin; brothers, Osher Martin, Wade Martin, Earlie Martin, Gene Martin, and Irving Martin; sisters, Della Martin Lawson and Jo Ann Martin Moser. Survivors include: sons, Jerry Dee Martin of Thurmond and Danny Frank Martin of Carlisle, PA; fourteen grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, February 4, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Ricky Martin and Rev. Roger Hensley officiating. Burial will follow in Indian Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. The family requests that memorials be made to Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family of Mr. Martin would like to thank the staff of Elkin Healthcare and the staff of Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home for their care.
