Elkin, Mattie Rea Barnette Harris, age 73, went to be with her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at her residence. Mrs. Harris was born April 2, 1938 in Yadkin County to the late Pinkney and Mattie Osborne Barnette. She was a loving mother and grandmother and her grandchildren will greatly miss their "Mimi". Mrs. Harris retired from Heritage Care. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by five sisters, Ella Thompson, Ann White, Carolyn Barnette Sheets, Susie Barnette, Christine Coe and six brothers, Joe Barnette, Hubert Barnette, Tom Barnette, Glen Barnette, Bobby Barnette, Curtis Barnette. Survivors include, two daughters, Tonna Holbrook and husband Jimmy of Jonesville, Tamala Pack of Elkin, Lisa Ladd of Ronda, a son-in-law, Greg Pack of Elkin, a brother, Charles Barnette and wife Barbara of Columbia, S.C., special friend Gearldine Snyder, friends and family of Heritage Care, four grandchildren, Josh Harris, Jessica Harris, Christian Pack, Emily Pack, three great grandchildren, Caible Groce, Saida Groce, Shadoe Bonin, nephews, Bryon Barnette, Tommy Coe and wife Jana; great nephew, Matthew Coe a niece, Becky Coe; special cats, Little Babe, Sleepy, Sugar, Precious, and Gizmo; and special dog, Sandy. A memorial service will be conducted Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Jerry Childress officiating.
