Mr. James Lee "Tip" Collins, age 77 of Elkin, passed away Friday, December 30, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mr. Collins was born June 2, 1934 in Wilkes county to David Ralph Collins and Noma Dowell Collins. He was retired from Chatham Manufacturing Company. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Nyoaka Collins; son, Timmy Collins; and sister, Lois Carter. Survivors include: sons, Danny Collins and his wife Cindy of Clemmons and Randy Collins and his wife Lori of Roaring River; daughter, Sandra Martin and her husband Steve of Elkin; brothers, Harry Collins and his wife Imogean of Jonesville and Pete Collins of Winston-Salem; sisters, Louise Martin of State Road and Betty Rogers and her husband David of Elkin; grandchildren, T.J. Collins, Wesley Martin, Brittany Collins, Amanda Collins, Luke Martin, and Ethan Collins. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church with Dr. Dan Merritt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday afternoon from 2:00-3:00 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Collins family to help with final expenses. The family would like to thank all the friends and neighbors of "Tip" especially Prescilla and Jim Howell, Dolores and Grady Mickel, Kay and Jim Rhodes, David Money, and the staff of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center ICU 4A and palliative care.
