Mrs. Nancy Elizabeth Hamby Hinson, age 72 of Bermuda Run, formerly of State Road, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2011 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Mrs. Hinson was born January 20, 1939 in Surry County to Tom Burnard Hamby and Verona Elva Key Hamby. Mrs. Hinson was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church for over 50 years. She was a graduate of Mountain Park high School and Appalachian State Teacher's College. Mrs. Hinson was retired from Yadkin county schools. She was a member of the DAR and the Ladies Auxiliary of State Road Fire Department. Mrs. Hinson loved to travel and she had a strong faith. She cared for many sick, loved ones until she became paralyzed in 2000. Many high school students have benefited from her generosity through the Dallas Brice Hinson Scholarship fund. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Bruce Hinson. Survivors include her brother, John Robert Hamby; niece, Pamela Hamby Carroll and her husband Ray, great niece, Melissa Deskins and her husband Jonathan; great nephew Jamie Schrock; brothers-in-law, Billy Hinson and his wife Pat and Franklin A Hinson and his wife Shelia; special friends, Gwen Reynolds and her husband John, and numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to the Dallas Bruce Hinson Scholarship fund.
