David Dale Church

Elkin Mr. David Dale Church, age 74, of Forest Hill Drive, passed away Friday July 4, 2008 at his residence. Mr. Church was born August 6, 1933 in Surry County to Terry Eugene "Ted" and Connie Holloway Church. Mr. Church was an electronics sales clerk at Wal-Mart and was a member of Union Baptist Church. David loved to sing and served as choir director at Union Baptist Church and East Elkin Baptist Church and also sang in a quartet. He was proficient at playing piano, guitar, and harmonica. He was a skilled electrician and was an accomplished artist. David managed to make every single person he came in contact with; strangers, friends, family, laugh. Mr. Church was a veteran of the United States Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a son, Terence Dale Church and a brother, Raymond P. Church. Survivors include; His wife, Betty Lou McBride Church of the home. A daughter, Shelia Ann Benton of Elkin. Two grandsons, Christopher Paul Benton and wife Ruth Ann of Traphill, Jonathan Luke Benton and wife Eliza Anne of Pilot Mountain. Five Great Grandchildren, Savannah Brie Benton, Christopher Blake Benton, Addison Blaine Carrigan, Cassidy "Cassie" Brianne Carrigan, Jonathan Trent Benton. Funeral services will be held Tuesday July 8, 2008 at 11:00 am at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Mark Freeman. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Monday from 7-9 pm at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice.
