Zell Sidden Cheek

October 28, 1922 — November 16, 2010

Mrs. Zell Sidden Cheek, age 88 of Thurmond, passed away Tuesday, November 16, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born October 28, 1922 in Wilkes County and was a member of State Road Primitive Baptist Church. In addition to her mother, Alberta Sidden, she was preceded in death by her husband Garvey R. Cheek and a brother Leff Sexton. Survivors include two sons Eddy L. Cheek and his wife Robbie of State Road and Garvey "Buddy" Cheek and his wife Kay of State Road; daughter Mary A. Gabbard and her husband Alex of Lenoir City, TN., four grandchildren Dr. William Gabbard, Dr. Wesley Gabbard and his wife Mireya, Mary Elizabeth Cheek, and William R. Cheek. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, November 19, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at State Road Primitive Baptist Church with Elder George Flippin and Elder Paul Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family requests memorials be made to State Road Primitve Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Mrs. Lou Hampton, 1384 CC Camp Road, Elkin, NC 28621. The family would like to thank Virginia Pardue, Mrs. Cheek's caregiver and friend.
