Elkin Mrs. Dorothy Jean Howie Hedrick, age 80, of Elkin, passed away Friday, July 10, 2009 at Woltz Hospice Home. Mrs. Hedrick was born August 11, 1928 in Mecklenburg County to Stacy & Marguerite Pridgen Howie. Mrs. Hedrick was a member of Elkin First Baptist Church where she was active in her early years where she served as secretary and was active in the Women's Club of Elkin. Mrs. Hedrick was owner of Hedrick Jewelers and worked with the adult education and Girl Scouts of America in Elkin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Everette R. Hedrick; a brother, Bill Howie; a sister, Mary Katherine Bryant; a grandchild, Julianna Hedrick. Survivors include: two sons, Everette Ray Hedrick, Jr., Randy Lane Hedrick and wife Alanna all of Elkin; two daughters, Melissa Lynn Hedrick of Elkin, Stacia H. Durham and husband Larry of Burlington; two sisters, Peggy Howie of Charlotte, Sue Philmon of Monroe; eight grandchildren, Brian Scott Durham, David Michael Durham, Jonathan Hedrick, Amanda Hedrick Webber, Amber Hedrick, Nathan Hedrick, Briana Hedrick, Anna Hedrick; three great-grandchildren, Jacob Durham, Samuel Durham and Luke Durham; caring friends, Sammy Neaves, Ken & ManShun Hon, and Georgia Simpson. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday, July 14, 2009 in Hodges Funeral Home Chapel at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. Bill Johnson and Rev. David Durham grandson officiating. Burial will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:30 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mt.
