State Road Mrs. Ruby Frances Cockerham Key, age 91, of Mountain Park Road, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Nursing Center. Mrs. Key was born July 5, 1915 in Surry County to Eugene Holton and Laura Elizabeth Simmons Cockerham. Mrs. Key was a retired sales clerk at Chatham Country Store and was a lifelong member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church always active in the church and a former member of WMU. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Joseph Key, two sisters: Betty Jean Sprinkle and Pauline Cockerham, and a brother: Claude Cockerham. Survivors include: two sons, Joe Key and wife Marie of Dobson and Henry Key and wife Ann of State Road. 3 grandchildren: Tanya Cox and husband David; Marc Key and wife Sara and Blair Carter and husband Chris; 3 great grandchildren: Greyson Cox, MiKayla Cox and Ella Carter. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 11 a.m. at Hodges Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Steve Kramm. Burial will follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
