August 28, 1955 — July 6, 2007

Mr. Joseph Eddie Shermer, age 51, passed away Friday July 6, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Shermer was born August 28, 1955 in Surry County to Luther Jackson and Margie Ledbetter Shermer. Mr. Shermer was employed by Weyerhaeuser, he was a member of Mineral Springs Baptist Church; he enjoyed playing golf and he was a man that loved God, and his family and friends very much. Mr. Shermer was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include his mother, Margie Ledbetter Shermer of Jonesville; two daughters, Linda Evans and her husband Billy of Middlesboro KY., Lisa Tilley and her husband Tommy of Yadkinville; one brother Jerry Shermer and his wife Pamela of North Wilkesboro, three grandchildren, Kayla Evans, Nikolas Evans and Brendon Thorpe; a special family friend Rhonda Palmer of Thomasville, and a special nephew Jeffrey Shermer. Funeral services for Mr. Shermer will be held at 11:00am Tuesday July 10, 2007 at Mineral Springs Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Richard Cardwell. Burial will follow in Sunrise Cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday evening at Hodges Funeral Home from 7-9pm. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 401 Technology Lane Suite 200 Mt. Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Mountain Valley Hospice for their loving care that was given to their father.
