Doris Faye Lyon Speaks, 69, of Ronda, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at her residence with her children and family by her side. She was born June 16, 1940 in Wilkes County to Charlie and Faye Durham Lyon. Mrs. Speaks was a devoted wife to her husband Junior and a loving mother and grandmother. She was a member of Knobbs Baptist Church. Some of her favorite things were her grandchildren, meeting with friends and family for lunch, cooking, and her flowers. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Speaks was preceded in death by her husband, Bergie Cephus Speaks, Jr.; a brother, Howard Lyon; and a sister, Judy Lyon. She is survived by two sons, James Rockford Speaks of Traphill, and Bergie Cephus Speaks III and wife Sharon of Ronda; three daughters, Teresa Lynn Speaks Wood and husband Kent of Roaring River, Starlene Speaks Wood and husband Scott of Roaring River, and Kenna Faye Speaks Phillips and husband Brad of Raleigh; two brothers, Jack Lyon and wife Shirley of Ronda, and Bobby Lyon of Jonesville; four sisters, Betty Johnson and husband Curtis of Winston Salem, Carol Shumate and husband Rex of Traphill, Ruth Wingler and husband Odell of N. Wilkesboro, and Cathy Byrd and husband James of Ronda; a sister-in-law, Pat Lyon of Yadkinville; Fourteen grandchildren, Autumn Speaks, Summer Speaks, Bradley Wood and wife Heather, Brian Wood, Kristen Wood Metz and husband Josh, Erica LuAnn Wood, Angela Carmen Wood, Kendra Faye Carter, Tonya Raye Carter, Matt Phillips and wife Karlla, Megan Farmer and husband Todd, Bergie Cephus Speaks IV, Charity Faye Speaks, and Thomas James Speaks; four great grandchildren, Jaxson Wood, Dalton Kase Wood, Connor Metz, and Landon Phillips. A funeral service will be conducted Friday, October 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Kent Wood, Rev. Danny Bauguess, and Rev. Todd Byrd officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6:30 to 8:30 pm at Elkin Funeral Service.
