Mrs. Maxine Sparks Lyon, age 88 of Traphill, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson. Mrs. Lyon was born August 25, 1923 in Wilkes County to Conrad and Hilda Cheek Sparks. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Mrs. Lyon was a homemaker and a member of Roaring Gap Missionary Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold William Lyon; son, Alan Ray Lyon; sisters, Mosha Jolly and Mildred Church; and a son-in-law, Jerry Swaim. Survivors include: son, David Lyon and his wife Nancy of Traphill; daughter, Gaye Swaim Drennen and her husband Earl of Traphill; sister, Betty Lou Rose of Elkin; grandchildren, Ramona Hemric and her husband Marty, Chris Lyon and his wife Tori, Jonathan Lyon and his wife Annette, Keela Lyon and her husband Jonathan, and Nathan Swaim; great grandchildren, Kaitlin Hemric, Miriana Lyon, Aiden Lyon, Mason Lyon, and Gabe Maiella. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, September 26, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Roaring Gap Missionary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Roaring Gap Missionary Baptist Church or Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home.
