State Road Mrs. Mabel Davis Eldridge, age 86, of Marshall Ridge Road, passed away at her residence after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born April 10, 1922 in Alexander County to Hayden Corbett and Bertha Chapman Davis. Mrs. Eldridge was a graduate from Elkin High School and Winston-Salem Business College. After completion of college she went to work at Chatham Manufacturing and later at Central Telephone as an Executive Secretary where she retired. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Baptist Church where she was active in several church organizations particularly the WMU. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James P. Eldridge; two brothers, Roland Davis and Robert Davis. Survivors include: two sons, John C. Eldridge and wife Lena of Hickory, James P. Eldridge and wife Sonia of Asheville; a daughter, Daphne E. Pardue and husband Ken of State Road; a sister, Mary D. Lyon of Elkin; five grandchildren, John Pardue of Elkin, Lorne Pardue of Clemmons, Will Eldridge and Hayden Eldridge both of Hickory, Emily Eldridge of Asheville; two great grandchildren, Cole Pardue and Carson Pardue both of Elkin. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 19, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church by Rev. John Attaway. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. Eldridge will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
