Warren Lloyd "Red" Barry 82 former St. Maries area resident, died July 18, 2011 at Spokane, WA. He was born July 10, 1929 to Henry and Olivene McLean Barry at Santa, ID. He moved to St. Maries with his family in 1936. He happily played in the rhythm band and dressed as Uncle Sam while attending grade school here. He went on to attend St. Maries High School where he excelled in boxing, basketball, football and baseball. He played on the Championship football team the year he graduated in 1948. He was also the Panhandle Boxing Champion. As a young man, "Red" worked in the woods as a logger. He and his father also built many roads in the St. Maries and Priest River, ID areas. He married Patricia Evans on July 21, 1949 at St. Maries. He worked at the Naval Shipyards in Bremerton, WA. before moving to Spokane where he drove delivery truck for Nabisco Co. In 1951, he went to work for Consolidated Freightways and was a member of the "One Million Mile Safety Club". He closed his career in the frieght industry as operations manager for Silver Eagle company in 1991. He enjoyed his cabin on Lake Coeur d' Alene until he became a "snowbird" to Yuma , AZ in the winters. While in Arizona, he enjoyed playing shuffleboard and won many awards playing the game. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He re-stored antique Fords. "Red" enjoyed carpentry and made and sold wood crafts. He also enjoyed traveling to historic places. His most prized possessions were his family. He was a member of the Fourth Memorial Church of Spokane and Teamsters Local #690. "Red" is survived by his wife Patricia at their home in Spokane. Son and daughter-in-law David and Gini Barry of Newman Lake, WA and son Rick Barry of Montana. Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law Tamara and Marc Richert and Shannon and Rick Southwick all of Spokane Valley, WA. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Funeral Services were Saturday July 23, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Hodge Funeral Home, St. Maries. Interment followed at Woodlawn Cemetery. The family suggests memorials to the American Lung Assn.
