Roaring River Mr. Posey Alexander Ross, age 83, of Greenhorn Road, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2005 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mr. Ross was born March 27, 1922 in Surry County to Calvin Alexander & Myrtle Harris Ross. Mr. Ross was retired from Chatham and was an active member at Benham Baptist Church where he held various positions. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the South Pacific during WWII. Posey was active in the Boy Scouts of America for 45 years where he received many awards. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Charlie, Lonnie, Eura, James and Doyle Ross; four sisters, Vivian Towe, Jessie Mauldin, Olivia Hancock and Reda Aeschlimann. Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Reba Settle Ross of the home; a son, Grayland Ross and wife Paula of Roaring River; five daughters, Patsy Holbrook of Winston-Salem, Gwenda Wagoner and husband Robert of N. Wilkesboro, Jerry Blackburn and husband Michael of Clover, SC., Gay Faw of Millers Creek, Lynn Alexander and Husband Frank of Elkin; a sister, Virginia Billings of Elkin; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, April 15, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at Benham Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Wiles and Rev. Ted Combs. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Ross will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. The family will accept flowers or memorials may be made to Benham Baptist Church.
