State Road Mr. Piotr P. Zacharewicz "Peter Paul Zach" of Drywall Road, State Road, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2006 at his home. Mr. Zach was born October 14, 1925 in Wilno Poland to Jon & Maria Bobarko Zacharewicz. Mr. Zach was a veteran of the Polish Army but retired from the United States Army after 21 years and was very proud to be an American. While in the Army, he served during WWII, the Korean and the Vietnam War. During his times of service, he received several medals some of which include the National Defense Service Medal 1 OLC, Good Conduct Medal 6th award, Air Medal, Bronze Star Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, two Overseas Bars. Peter was a member of Saint Stephens Catholic Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Jon Zach and a granddaughter, Tina Marie Pilcher. Survivors include two sons, Peter Andrew Zach of Talsey, Va., Greg Zach of Boonville; four daughters, Wanda Wetzel and husband Randy of Fredericksburg, Va., Maria Gray and husband Dennie of Germanton, Debra Matheson and husband Steve of Belews Creek, Robin Warner and husband Jim of Hurricane W. Va.; a brother, Romuald Zacharewicz of Siczecin, Poland; two sisters, Mary Zacharewicz of Siczecin, Poland, Eugienia Folkman of Bedzin, Poland; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held with full military honors on Memorial Day, Monday, May 29, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Stephens Catholic Church by Father Hanic. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin.
