State Road Mrs. Nita Church Darnell, age 84, of Mtn. Park Road, passed away, Thursday, August 2, 2007 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Darnell was born November 20, 1922 in Keystone, West Virginia to Lewis & Faye Parker Church. Mrs. Darnell was employed at Chatham Manufacturing for 23 years and in 1967 after the death of her husband she became owner/operator of Darnell Parts Service, Inc. She was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church and was the past director of NC Automotive Wholesalers Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jasper Q. Darnell. Survivors include: a son, Terry D. Darnell of the home and a special friend Patty Wells; a daughter, Sharon Poindexter Macemore of State Road; a brother, Donald S. Church and wife Jerry of Ronda; three sisters, Opal Church Anthony of Charlotte, NC, Sybil Church Gentry and husband Jim of Ronda, Doris Church Anthony and husband Joe of Roaring River; three grandchildren, Joshua Q. Poindexter and friend A.J. Grein of Ind., Joel N. Poindexter of Charlotte; John A. Poindexter of Elkin; an adopted great grandchild, Jasper Emmerson Grein. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 5, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Pleasant View Baptist Church by Rev. Finley McCoury. Burial will follow at Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Ark Homeless Shelter of Elkin or to the Leukemia Foundation or to the Donor's Choice.
