Clara Couch Shaffner

Elkin Mrs. Clara Couch Shaffner, age 82, of Carter Mill Road, Elkin, passed away Thursday, May 27, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Shaffner was born January 28, 1928 in Wilkes County to Meshack & Susie Transou Couch. Mrs. Shaffner was a member of Cool Springs Baptist Church and was a homemaker. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Shaffner; sisters, Irene Luffman, Edith Rogers, Polly Wishon; brothers, Reece Couch, Avery Couch, Clarence Couch, Bill Couch. Survivors include: a daughter, Linda Gough and husband Jerrell of Elkin; one granddaughter, Michelle Upchurch and husband Lee of Yadkinville; three great grandchildren, Tyler Upchurch, Tanner Upchurch, Trevin Upchurch; a brother, Oliver Couch and wife Jane; sisters-in-law, Evon Couch and Opal Wishon. Several Nieces & Nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Cool Springs Baptist Church by Rev. David Key and Rev. Russ Nixon. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery Fund.
