James Walter Byrd

Ronda Mr. James "Walter" Byrd, age 85, of Little Elkin Church Road, passed away Tuesday December 7, 2004 at Village of Wilkes. Mr. Byrd was born December 22, 1918 in Wilkes County to James T. & Lessie Jolly Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a member of Little Elkin Baptist Church where he held several positions which include Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member and Trustee. He was a veteran of the US Army Air Corps and served during WWII and he was a retired farmer. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include: his wife, Zona Mae Byrd of Village of Wilkes; a son, J.W. Byrd, Jr. and wife Kathy of Ronda; a daughter, Delaine Burchette and husband Reggie of Ronda; a brother, Luther Byrd and wife Donna of Elkin; a sister, Ester Lowe of High Point; six grandchildren, Brian Burchette, Beth Blevins, Bobby Byrd, Sandy Shepherd; Kim Foster and Tammy Shepherd; six great grandchildren, Tiffany Vestal, Daniel Holbrook, Brittany Holbrook, Trey Blevins, Tristen Blevins and Nathaniel Burchette. Funeral services will be held Friday, December 10, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at Little Elkin Baptist Church by Rev. Gwyn Anderson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Byrd will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Little Elkin Baptist Church Building Fund.
