Mrs. Mary Carol Gentry, age 69, passed away Monday, May 31, 2010 at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital. She was born December 1, 1940 in Wilkes County to Bruce and Nancy Wilson Colbert. Mrs. Gentry was a member of Knobbs Baptist Church and was owner of Carol's Restaurant. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and the father of their children James Spicer, brothers: Raymond Colbert, Fred Colbert, Bill Colbert, Sam Colbert, and Hue Colbert, and one sister Louise Tilley. Survivors include her husband Stanley Ray "Clyde" Gentry of the home, one son Thomas James Spicer and wife Melissa of Traphill, one daughter Tammy Day and husband Eddie of Elkin, one step son Gary Arthur Gentry of Lenoir, two step daughters Diana Gentry of Morganton and Donna Gentry of Lenoir, sister Grace Adams and husband Harold of Traphill, grandchildren Sarah Spicer, Katie Spicer, and Jennifer Somers, one great grandchild Reagan Somers, five step great grandchildren and a special niece Jenna Colbert. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Knobbs Baptist Church with Rev. Danny Bauguess, Rev. Jimmy Welborn, and Rev. Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Elkin Funeral Service.
