State Road Mr. Edward Roan Snyder III age 56 of Quail Tree Lane, State Road, passed away Wednesday, May 2, 2007 at his residence. Mr. Snyder was born August 26, 1950 in Surry County to the late Edward Roan Snyder, Jr. and Kathleen Cochrane Snyder. Mr. Snyder was a member of Elkin Presbyterian Church where he served as a Deacon and Elder and was the Distribution Treasurer for over thirty years. Ed was a former Master Mason of Elkin Masonic Lodge 454 and served as their secretary for over 20 years. Mr. Snyder graduated from Duke University in 1972 and was a member of Delta Tau Delta Fraternity. Ed began his career in textiles with Carolina Bloomer Co. in Elkin and was director of purchasing with Sara Lee Branded Apparel. He was preceded in death by his father. Survivors include: his wife, Judy Webb Snyder of the home; two sons, Matthew Edward Snyder and his fiance Margaret Brooks of Charlotte, Dr. Jonathan Reich Snyder and his wife Courtney Spellman Snyder of Durham; his mother, Kathleen Cochrane Snyder of Elkin; a sister, Kathy Jo Snyder Somers and Mitch Mitchell of Greensboro. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Elkin Presbyterian Church by Rev. Brian Rummage. The family will receive friends following the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Mountain Valley Hospice Home Building Fund, Elkin Division, 107 Court Street, Elkin, NC 28621 or to Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital Foundation, 180 Parkwood Drive, Elkin, NC 28621.
