Mr. Fred Raymond Hayes, age 86, of S. Center Church Road, passed away Monday, July 3, 2006 at his residence. Mr. Hayes was born May 1, 1920 in Wilkes County to Thomas & Docia Scott Hayes. Mr. Hayes was retired from Chatham Manufacturing and attended Charity Hill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Cheek Hayes; a daughter, Linda Rose Hayes Newman; four brothers, Walter, Willie, Robert and Bob Hayes; a son-in-law, Billy Ray Brown, Sr. Survivors include: a son, Don Hayes and wife Karen of Low Gap; a daughter, Agnes Brown of Thurmond; two brothers, Harvey Hayes, Denver Hayes and wife Martha all of Elkin; two sisters, Pauline Marshall, Bonnie Wood and husband Henry all of Elkin; seven grandchildren, Sherry Edwards and husband David; Johnny "Opie" Newman, Jr., Billy Brown and wife Amy; Jan Newman, Mary Clinard and husband Brian, Erica Johnson and husband Aaron, Donna Jennings; seven great grandchildren, Dillon and Lindsey Clinard, Eli, Nathan and Christian Brown, Reagan Johnson and Heath Edwards; a special friend, Merle Cheek of Elkin. Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 6, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Charity Hill Baptist Church by Rev. Brian Cardwell. Burial will follow at Center Baptist Church Cemetery. Mr. Hayes will lie instate 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care 1326 N. Main Street, Mt. Airy, NC 27030.
