Elkin Mr. Curtis Charles Hayes, age 74, of Lyles Street, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2004 at Elkin Healthcare Center. Mr. Hayes was born March 23, 1930 in Surry County to Charlie Andrew & Betty Lenoir Layell Hayes. Mr. Hayes was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He retired from the North Carolina Department of Correction and he was a member of Salem Fork Christian Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Myrtle Renegar; three brothers, Leonard Hayes, O'Brian Hayes and Doff Hayes. Survivors include: his wife, Jo Ann Hayes of the home; a son, Tony Hayes and wife Becky of Jonesville; two daughters, Joyce Cothern and husband Wyman, Patricia Walker and husband Ricky all of State Road; a brother, Robert K. Hayes of N. Wilkesboro; two sisters, Annie Lee Burton of Elkin, Lola Kluttz of Greensboro; five grandchildren, Curtis Cothern, Brian Cothern, Chris Holbrook, Kevin Walker and T.C. Hayes. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 1, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Fork Christian Church by Rev. Joshua M.K. Goocey and Rev. Don Hudson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 7-9 p.m. at Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Hayes family.
