Velma Lee Bates

April 9, 1940 — August 30, 2005

Ronda Mrs. Velma Lee Wilmoth Bates, age 65, of Luffman Road, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2005 at her residence. Mrs. Bates was born April 9, 1940 in Alleghany County to Holbert & Nora Sparks Wilmoth. Mrs. Bates was a homemaker and was a member of White rock Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Larry Bates, a son, Tony McGee; three brothes, Sonny Wilmoth, Homer Wilmoth and Fred Wilmoth. Survivors include: a son, Harold McGee and wife Karen of Hamptonville; four daughters, Phyllis McGee of the home, Cindy Sizemore and husband Russell of State Road and their daughter Nora Faith, Vickie McGee of Ronda, Patricia Mathis and husband Jimmy of Elkin; two sisters, Verlie Bates and Polly Caudle both of Thurmond; five other grandchildren, Lacy Mullins, Anthony McGee, Harold McGee, Jr., Billy Mathis, David Mathis. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 2, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at White Rock Methodist Church by Rev. Michael Osborne. Burial will follow at White Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at the Church. Hodges Funeral Home in Elkin is serving the Bates family.
